Welcome to the 5th Glasgow Anchor Boys PageThe 5th Glasgow BB's Anchor Boys is for boys in P1-P3 at school. They meet in St John's Renfield Church large hall on Tuesday night between 6.15pm and 7.15pm. The boys take part in team and individual games as well as crafts, cookery, badgework and competitions against boys from other companies in Partick District. Some of the District Events which we take part in are shown below:
The boys are inspected each week on their appearance and to check their Anchor Boys red jumper. The boys follow the Anchor Boy achievement programme. Each year the group work towards a different badge, which they can take on to Junior Section. The boys have to complete two achievements under each of the headings Body, Mind, Spiritual, Community & Creativity. This session we split the boys into four teams - Lions, Tigers, Panthers and Leopards. See what they have been up to and what is planned below:
OctoberPotted SportsWe hosted the District Potted Sports Competition in October and 2 teams from the 5th joined others from throughout Partick District to compete in various 'stations', testing the boys skills with balls, hoops and beanbags. At the end of a fun-filled evening the two teams from the 5th came in 1st and 3rd. Well done to all the boys who took part.HalloweenThis year's Halloween Party was a joint one with the Junior Section. We had our usual costume parade around the hall, some food & drink and lots of spooky games too! Congratulations to all of the boys who used a fork and braved the dooking of apples!
NovemberFire Station VisitIn November we visited our local firefighters at Maryhill Fire Station. The boys got to see the engines go out but still got an opportunity to play in them when they came back. Everyone had a shot at squirting the hose and got to see around a working fire-station! On leaving, each boy also received a pack on fire safety and other goodies.Police VisitThe following week two police officers came and talked to the boys in the hall. They showed the boys the equipment they carry and the boys got their hand prints taken. They also gave out a goody bag to each boy which included a special UV pen to write their name and address on their bike incase it gets stolen. Thanks again to the officers for taking time to visit the boys.
DecemberChristmas Colouring CompetitionThe boys completed their entries for the Partick District Christmas Colouring Competition at the start of December. The boys took their time in colouring the pictures in carefully and neatly. Some of the boys from the company were lucky enough to win prizes, more news soon!
ChristmasOver the last two weeks we have been making Christmas tree decorations from salt dough with the boys cutting and painting them. Our annual Christmas Party will be held with the Junior Section very soon. There will be the usual fun & games as well as a Christmas 'feast', featuring plenty of food and perhaps a visit from a special guest!?
