District Tenpin Bowling Competition 2023-2024

 

11 boys from the 5th entered the District 10-Pin Bowling Competition, held at XScape Braehead on Tuesday 5th December 2023. In the Junior event Harris took 1st place, with 40 points & Ariel was 2nd, with 32 points. In the Intermediates Felix claimed 2nd, with 77 points and Lukas was 3rd, with 68 points. Finally in the Seniors Hamish scooped 2nd, with 89 points. The 5th also took the Team prize, 3 boys wfrom the same company with the highest combined total score of 242 points, (Hamish = 89, Cameron = 76 & Felix = 77). A big well done to all the boys who took part!

District Drill Competition 2023-2024

 

The 130th HQ at Broomhill Hyndland Church was the venue for the District Drill Competition on Friday 1st December 2023. 6 Squads from throughout the District vied for the title of District Drill Champions. After all the squads performed the same drill moves the 5th A squad retained the title, with our 'young pretenders', the 5th B, showing great potential for the future by scooping 2nd place. A great effort & focus from all the boys!

District Lazer Planet Competition 2023-2024

 

Hamish, Felix, Jackson, Harris & Ariel from the 5th joined over 50 other boys for the District Lazer Planet competition on Monday 6th November 2023. The competition consisted of 2 games of Lazer tag at Lazer Quest Kinning Park over the whole evening. At the end of a fierce night's competition the boys with the highest score in either of the 2 games took the District title. Harris won the Junior event with an impressive 1513 points and Hamish took the Senior trophy with 1093 points. Well done to all who took part.

District Sports 2023-2024

 

Scotstoun Stadium was the venue for the District Sports on Monday 9th October 2019. A large number of boys from the 5th took part in the Company Section events, which included the 100m, 800m, 4x100m relay, long jump, shot putt & 'the howler'! In the Junior Events Hamish Meikle grabbed 1st in the Howler & 800m, 2nd in the 100m. Felix picked up 3rd place in the Howler in the Intermediate event and Cameron won gold in the Senior Shott Putt with Christopher taking 3rd in the same event. Many others boys from the 5th picked up a few very commendable results too. Congratulations boys!

District Senior 5-a-side Football 2022-2023

 

The District Senior 5-a-side football competition was held on Monday 6th March 2023 at Scotstoun Leisure Centre. Vincent, Cameron, Christopher, & Alexander took part in a rather damp evening of competition, joining other teams from throughout the district. At the end of the night our boys were victorious & brought the trophy home! A great effort guys!

District Badminton Competition 2022-2023

 

The District Badminton Competition was held at Scotstoun on Monday 27th February 2023. Felix, Iniyan, Alexander, Andrew, Cameron & Christopher represented the 5th. At the end of the evening's competition Alexander took the runner up spot in the Seniors event. Well done to all who took part in a very enjoyable evening.

District 5-a-side Football 2022-2023

 

The District 5-a-side Junior football competition was held on Tuesday 11th October 2022 at Scotstoun Leisure Centre. Felix & Jackson from the 5th joined forces with the 44th Glasgow and helped the team take the runners up spot at the end of a tough evening of competition. A great effort guys!

Battalion Limited Squad Drill Competition 2019-2020

 

The Battalion Limited Squad Drill Competition took place at Kings Park Secondary School on Friday 13th March 2020. Grant, Jack, Andrew, Alexander, Cameron & Christopher took part for the 5th against a high quality field and claimed 1st place. Having won the Fraser Shield for the very first time in 2017, we have now managed four in a row! A great effort from all the boys who took part.

District Video Games Event 2019-2020

 

Some of our Company Section boys attended the District gaming event at Rcade Glasgow on Thursday 12th March. Boys tested out consoles ranging from a 1978 Binatone through to the latest Wii, with hundreds of games to choose from. I think many of our boys left with square eyes!

District Go-Karting 2019-2020

 

Nine boys from the 5th joined other boys from throughout the district for an evening of high-octane fun at Scotkart Clydebank on Tuesday 28th January 2020. The boys were split into age groups, with each group getting two, 12 minute sessions on the track. The winners were those with the fastest lap in their age group. Alexander, Andrew, Cameron, Christopher, Hamish, Iniyan, Jack, Thrinei & Vincent took part from the 5th. At the end of an evening with quite a few bumps & crashes Hamish took 1st place in the Juniors, with Alexander 2nd & Andrew 3rd in the Intermediate event. Well done!

Recruits Compass Challenge 2017-2018

 

The Battalion Compass Badge Challenge was held on Friday 23rd February 2018. 11 Teams from throughout Glasgow & the surrounding area took part in 3 activities relating to their first year in the Company Section. The 5th team, consisting of Alexander, Cameron & Christopher did very well - taking 3rd position in Bible Knowledge, 1st position in Drill & 3rd position in BB Knowledge. This splendid performance meant they claimed 2nd spot overall at the end of the evening. Well done to all 3 of them!

Battalion NCO Drill Competition 2017-2018

 

The Battalion NCO Drill was also held on Wednesday 17th January 2018 at Ibrox Parish Church. Ewan from the 5th joined NCO's from throughout Glasgow to compete for the trophy. After a tough night's competition Ewan claimed a very commendable 6th place overall, (and 5th place in the novice competition), with a score of 78.5 percent.

District Table Tennis 2015-2016

 

We hosted the Partick District Table Tennis competition on Wednesday 23rd March. Jack, Duncan & Grant represented the 5th in the Junior event and Fraser & Patrick in the Senior event. At the end of the evening it was a clean sweep for the 5th - with Duncan, Grant & Jack scooping 1st, 2nd & 3rd respectively in the Junior event and Patrick claiming 1st in the Seniors, with Fraser runner-up. Well done to all the boys for taking part.

Battalion Inter-Company Quiz 2015-2016

 

Six teams from throughout Glasgow Battalion took part in the Inter-Company Quiz on Friday 18th March 2016 at Shawlands Parish Church. The 5th Team of Charles, Fraser & Patrick took part in an evening of 10 rounds of questions - with topics ranging from Sport to History. With the top 2 teams tied on points at the end of the competition it was down to the number of rounds 'won' to decide the winning team. Unfortunately that meant the 5th team missed out on the top spot by the narrowist of margins and had to settle for 2nd place. Well done to all the teams who took part.

Battalion Cross Country 2015

 

Saturday 14th February 2015 saw the Glasgow Battalion Cross Country taking place at a chilly Bellahouston Park. Charles Tod was the sole entrant from the 5th but despite this he raced around the 5km circuit in an impressive time, ending up in 3rd place in the Intermediate race. The first seven finishers in each (age) race were automatically selected for the Scottish Cross-Country Championships.

Over 120 runners from 12 Battalions gathered in the grounds of Police Scotland College at Tulliallan on Sunday 7th March for the National event. Once again Charles took part in the Intermediate race and against some very experienced opposition came over the line in a very creditable 13th place.

Battalion Swimming Gala 2014-2015

 

The Battalion Swimming Gala was held at Castlemilk Pool on Sunday 15 February 2015. Eight companies from throughout Glasgow took part, including Patrick & Fraser from the 5th. They both took part in the Senior races, including Freestyle (Patrick = 7th, Fraser = 8th) and Breaststroke (Fraser = 7th, Patrick = 8th). The final race of the event was the 4 x 1 Length Relay and Patrick joined up with boys from fellow Partick District company the 101st Glasgow to claim 2nd place.

Battalion Solo Instrument Competition 2014-2015

 

Ross represented the 5th in the Battalion Solo Instrument Competition, held on Wednesday 12th November 2014. A keen pianist, Ross won the Battalion Seniors solo instrument competition and topped it off with the Open competition, claiming the title of 'Battalion Musician of the Year'!

Seniors Battalion Football 2013-2014

 

For the second season in a row we joined up with fellow Partick District company the 135th Glasgow to enter a team in the Glasgow Battalion Seniors Football League. Joining teams from throughout Glasgow and the surrounding area each team played each other twice over the course of the season. All games were held at Glasgow Green Football Centre, lasted 50 minutes and were refereed by qualified SFA refs, (so no 'traditional' BB home biase!).

District Orienteering 2012-2013

 

Four boys from the 5th entered the Partick District Orienteeting competition on Sunday 07 October 2012. Charles & Patrick formed the 5A team and Fraser & Sam the 5B. Three other teams took part in a rather muddy Mugdock Country Park, which saw each team set off from the visitor centre at 2 minute intervals with a map & clues in order to find 20 red & white posts marked with a letter and a number - the aim being to write down the number on the post to the corresponding letter on their scorecard.

Both 5th teams did rather well, with the '5th A' team taking 2nd place and the '5th B' team scooping 1st place - locating all the markers in a superb time of 78 minutes. Full results shown below.
