Welcome to the 5th Glasgow Junior Section Page

The 5th Glasgow Junior Section meet between 7.15 and 8.30pm on Tuesday nights from September until June. The Junior Section is for any boy from Primary 4 through to Primary 6. Boys are encouraged to undertake a variety of achievements under 5 headings gaining recognition for each one completed. At the end of the session they should have gained a Badge - Target & Bronze (P4), Silver (P5), or Gold (P6). A sample of the achievements undertaken in the past year are:

  • Community - Sew on a button, Child Poverty, Nature & Conservation, BB International Projects
  • Creativity - Singing, Flying Bird, Flap Jacks, Drama
  • Mind - BB Badge, Trackword, The Solar System, Tangram
  • Spirit - I Forgot, The Lord's Prayer, Cups, This is your Life
  • Body - 5-a-side Football, Potted Sports, Board Games, Agilities

As you will see from the notes below we also compete with other companies in the Partick District Area with usually at least one competition a month throughout the year. Over the years the 5th have enjoyed a large number of individual successes cumulating in us often winning the overall Partick District Junior Section Title. While it is good to win it is just as rewarding seeing the boys competing and enjoying themselves with other boys from outwith their own immediate environment.

In addition we have Halloween and Christmas parties and on a Saturday at the end of May or early in June we take the boys away for a fun day out. On a Tuesday evening towards the end of May we hold our Annual Inspection & Prize Giving when family and friends are invited to come along and see the boys in action.

If you would like any further details or more information please send an email to us. The officers and boys look forward to meeting any boy who would like to come along and join in the fun.

March 2017

At present we have 11 boys attending on a Tuesday evening and we have been following an interesting programme of achievements including "What Makes a Friend", "Understanding Money", "Recycling", the study of Lent & Easter and last but not least Shrove Tuesday pancake making!

We have also been working towards and competing in some District events with considerable success:

  • Bible and General Knowledge 1st Place Christie Watt, Alexander Bell and Hamish Mathieson. Hamish in particular was delighted with his first ever BB Medal (and its gold!!)
  • Superstars 1st place Christie Watt, Alexander Bell and Cameron Gregor.

As we speak we are fast approaching the District Figure Marching and looking to break for Easter concluding a hatrick of 2017 victories.

When we return after Easter we will be working towards our joint Junior Section & Anchor Boys display to be held on Tuesday 16th May 2017. We will also hold some bring a friend nights and an end of session trip before finishing up for the summer break.

Our P6 boys are about to move up to Company Section (Friday night), however any P4 and P5 boys looking for some fun on a Tuesday evening would be made most welcome for the rest of the session. Any boys can enrol any Tuesday, just come along.
