Welcome to the 5th Glasgow Anchor Boys Page

The 5th Glasgow BB's Anchor Boys is for boys in P1-P3 at school. They meet in St John's Renfield Church large hall on Tuesday night between 6.15pm and 7.45pm. The boys take part in games, drill/marching, art & craft activities and participate in the Anchor Boy Achievement Programme.

Throughout the session, boys also enjoy taking part in district colouring competitions, a Hallowe'en Party, a Christmas Party, putting on a display for parents and invited guests and a day trip away.

We are always keen to increase the number of boys attending. If you know any boys in P1, P2 or P3 who would like to join in the fun on a Tuesday evening, please encourage them to come along. A warm welcome awaits!

November/December 2019

It has been decided to run the Anchor Boys and Junior Section jointly. The Anchor Boys have four members and the Junior Section, nine so it was thought advantageous to pool resources. The groups will run on a Tuesday evening from 6.15pm-7.45pm and have joint opening and closing ceremonies and joint games – thus providing more competition for the boys, but will separate to address the requirements of the programmes designed specifically for each section. This arrangement will be in place until Christmas when it will be reviewed.

March 2018

The Anchor Boys continue to enjoy their weekly programme of drill, games, crafts and stories.

We are about to enter the Partick District Easter Colouring Competition in which we hope to emulate the success of the Christmas Colouring Competition. In it, 5th Glasgow Boys' Brigade Anchor Boy Section virtually swept the board with prize winners as follows:

  • Primary 1 section - 1st Prize - Harris
  • Primary 2 section - 1st and 3rd Prizes going to Mirko and Dylan
  • Primary 3 section - 2nd Prize - Luke

We are also looking forward to showing off our skills at the joint Anchor Boy and Junior Section Display on Tuesday 22nd May at 6.30pm and to our annual outing on Saturday 9th June to Almond Valley Farm Park.

December 2017

Each Tuesday evening, twelve very energetic wee boys, 7 x P3s, 4 x P2s and 1 x P1 boy, participate in a variety of activities including drill, games, arts and crafts and Bible stories. The staff include one former member of the company section, one current senior company section boy and a new volunteer.

We have had a joint Hallowe'en party with the Junior Section and are already looking forward to a joint Christmas party on 12th December when we hope a very special visitor will be able to attend!

There are not quite so many District or Battalion competitions for the Anchor Boys as there are for Junior and Company Sections, but we are participating in the Christmas and Easter Colouring Competitions. We had very good success with these last year and so look forward to hearing of the results with anticipation. Partick District is seeking to establish a Potted Sports Competition which we would anticipate joining in.

If you know of any boy currently in P1 - P3 at Primary School, please encourage them to come along to join us.
